Dr. Alyssa Jenkins grew up and completed undergraduate degrees in biology and biotechnology in Michigan’s lower peninsula. She attended veterinary school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she discovered a love for internal medicine and working with unusual species. Dr. Jenkins then completed a rotating internship at the University of Tennessee. She considered pivoting to zoo animal medicine but ultimately decided she wanted to work with species that have been more thoroughly researched. Dr. Jenkins stayed at the University of Tennessee for another year as a clinical instructor in Emergency and Critical Care and then continued her journey south to Texas A&M University. She recently finished her residency in small animal internal medicine and is excited to care for your pets! Dr. Jenkins has special interests in infectious and endocrine disease, minimally invasive procedures, and geriatric medicine—she especially loves old, small dogs with big personalities.
When she isn’t in the clinic, Dr. Jenkins enjoys thrifting, reading, trying new restaurants, and learning new art forms. She is currently enjoying needle felting and recently rediscovered painting. She also enjoys spending time outside and herping (like birding, but with reptiles and amphibians) with her partner. Dr. Jenkins has a perfect old man Pomeranian mix named Grasshopper. Her partner also has a Pomeranian (who is very sweet, but not as good as Grasshopper), and they share guardianship of an assortment of reptiles, amphibians, and a “bottle baby” cat that Dr. Jenkins rescued during her internship.
